The area east of the creek is the campground, with 121 developed family campsites. The area south of the campground is the day use area, commonly called "hole in the fence". At Hole-In-The-Fence there are 33 fire rings, a volleyball area, chemical toilets, beach showers and lots of parking. This area is popular for the all day beach party and evening campfire.
At the entrance to Doheny State Beach there is a Visitors Center with aquariums, a simulated tide pool, and schedules on what is going on in the park.

Panoramic views abound in the natural cove that author and seaman Richard Henry Dana called, "The only romantic spot on the coast." Dana landed here during the hide trading days of the 1830's and described the charm of the steep cliff cove in his renowned book, "TWO YEARS BEFORE THE MAST". In the days of the square rigged sailing ships, the rugged cove was known as BAHIA CAPISTRANO and was the major port between San Diego and Santa Barbara. It seemed only natural that this scenic cove was destined to become one of the most beautiful recreational harbors on the west coast.
The Dana Point Harbor Youth and Group Facility is a center dedicated to the promotion of boating, sailing and safety around the water. The one-acre site is the nucleus of many youth and group programs. Girl Scouts, Saddleback College, Boy Scouts, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary are just a few of the organizations that use the facility for public instruction, and recreation.
