Little Corona Beach
Corona Del Mar / Newport Beach
Location / Directions :
200 Poppy Ave., Corona Del Mar
A relatively small beach, flanked on both sides with rocky reefs that offer the spectacular diving well known to local divers, this beach is well protected from swells and surf, making it one of the easier diving sites. There are no steps, but there is a steep pathway to the beach.
The seclusion and tide pool are highlights here. The walk down a steep hill and limited parking make access for the disabled a problem. The visitors are predominantly locals.
Little Corona lies on the north end of Big Corona, to the south, and fronts the ocean. The beach here is small, and can fill up on a summer day. Surf can be tricky for swimmers thanks to submerged rocks, but there are tidepools to explore. The bad news is, after years of traffic, the tidepools are in poor shape. Taking, or even touching, anything from this beach is forbidden. Also, there is a stream of contaminated water from Buck Gully that empties at the head of the beach.
